With a heavy heart, we mourn the tragic and untimely passing today of Maestro Boris Brott OC, O.Ont, GOQ. Boris was an irreplaceable part of the Azrieli Music Prizes community, having served with dedication and passion on the Azrieli Jewish Music Prizes Jury since 2015 and the AMP Advisory Council since 2018.
Boris was one of the most internationally-recognized Canadian conductors and dedicated his life to educating, motivating, and bridging cultures through music. As Artistic Director of the Orchestre classique de Montréal (formerly McGill Chamber Orchestra), Maestro Brott collaborated with AMP both frequently and intensively. We will forever remember his life-affirming spirit, warm and generous leadership, and unyielding commitment to the universal and unifying power of music.
He was a very dear friend, and we will miss him terribly.
