Synopsis
Within the strict framework of the academic world, we get used to certain rules of writing which sometimes constrain the soul and the creative mind. As researchers, the creative mind is important to our work when we search for solutions and new ways of thinking and helps us to be flexible within changes and shifts during the research process. Writing gives us the freedom to gaze inwards or outwards Writing is also a muscle of sorts that needs to be used, perhaps with a certain amount of effort at first, but this gets easier with time. Are we not tempted sometimes to hang up a “be back in five minutes” sign and take off to roam around in someone else’s mind? Or to find words for some of our inner processes? This workshop is made up of learning and experiencing a new topic as a tool of creative writing at every meeting. The experience-rich learning process combines different elements from the world of the theater and of storytelling.
Outcomes
The workshop will give participants tools and inspiration to train our writing muscles. We will use material from our lives as sources of inspiration and interest, and we will learn how to transform complex experiences into meaningful stories. Using material from our lives and playing with the borderline between the real and the imagined will allow freedom, playfulness and a rediscovery of ourselves and of our creative muscles. We will also learn how to get out of our minds, and how to create characters, conflicts and places. The workshop is aimed at anyone who feels comfortable writing and also at those who feel that they don’t have anything to say and are made nervous by the sight of an empty page. In further meetings we will have time to write quietly and to practice this new theme, and at the end we will give the participants a stage to read their texts and receive feedback.
