Position Summary:
We are currently recruiting for a Senior Manager, Communications to join the team. This role will be accountable for overall communications at the Foundation, under the direction of the Chief Strategy Officer and with the support of the communications department.
The Senior Manager will have the opportunity to exercise strategic, creative and operational leadership as part of a communications team responsible for a range of strategies and tactics, including brand management, content creation, digital engagement, media relations and more. This role is focused on developing and supporting initiatives to support the Foundation, our programs and granting.
Position Responsibilities:
Communications Strategy:
- Lead the development, execution and ongoing evaluation of a comprehensive strategic communications plan, for the Foundation.
- Ensure alignment of communications strategies for Azrieli Programs and Centres.
Storytelling and Public & Media Relations:
- In partnership with key stakeholders, develop storytelling strategies and media opportunities to support the Foundation’s positioning as sector leaders in key priority areas.
- Manage PR strategy and media relations for the grants and program teams.
- Work with grant and program teams to articulate positions on core issues and respond in real time.
- Develop and lead comprehensive strategies for public launches and announcements.
- Take a lead role in supporting senior management and the Foundation on issues management and crisis communications.
Operations and Management of the Communications Team:
- Supervise and foster the professional development of team responsible for internal, external and leadership communications across multiple streams.
- Accomplish team deliverables by communicating job expectations, planning, monitoring and appraising job results.
- Support communications planning, budget process and efforts to build a strong, productive team culture.
- Support efforts to measure the efficacy of communications strategy and develop reports for internal stakeholders.
- Monitor communications trends and regularly share insights with various teams.
- Oversee all collateral and ensure brand consistency.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
Qualifications and Competencies:
- University Degree in Journalism, Communications, Marketing or similar field.
- 5+ years of business communication experience.
- Exceptional writing talent is a must.
- Knowledge of best practice and trends in communication and digital strategies and experience with media relations.
- Language skills:
- Excellent English written and oral communication skills are required
- Professional working proficiency in French reading and speaking required, proficiency in French writing considered an asset (note, if the candidate is out of practice and believes they can re-gain proficiency, please reach out)
- Knowledge of Hebrew is an asset
- Strong leadership skills with the experience to manage and guide communications team, manage expectations of internal and external clients and support leadership
- Strong attention to detail and project management skills
- Ability to work well in a matrix structure, taking direction from a multitude of people
- Superior capacity to work cooperatively and to secure the cooperation of various partners and stakeholders.
- Ability to exercise discretion and tact in difficult or confidential situations and an ability to project a positive, professional image to the public required.
- Proficiency in Office 365 environment.

The Azrieli Foundation is currently seeking a full-time bilingual Educator for its Holocaust Survivor Memoirs Program.
Founded in 2005, the Holocaust Survivor Memoirs Program was established by the Azrieli Foundation to collect, preserve, publish and share the memoirs written by Holocaust survivors who immigrated to Canada. The program is guided by the conviction that each survivor has a unique story to tell and that this story, in its own way, can play a distinctive role in education about the acceptance of diversity. We are the only national program providing free Holocaust education materials and outreach in both official languages across Canada.
We are looking for a bilingual educator with in-depth knowledge of teaching best practices and educational processes in a high school setting to complement our qualified team of Holocaust educators. In addition to having excellent written and verbal communication skills, our ideal candidate will also have outstanding presentation skills.
Reporting to the Manager of Education Initiatives, the Educator will be responsible for the following tasks:
- Collaborating with the education team to research and create educational materials, lesson plans and other supplemental materials to support the use of the books published by the Holocaust Survivor Memoirs Program
- Assessing lesson plans for ease of classroom implementation
- Communicating and collaborating with teachers and stakeholders and participating in regular meetings
- Implementing teacher training according to each province’s curricular requirements and school boards’ needs
- Planning and executing professional development events
- Providing individualized instruction to teachers
- Cultivating teachers’ interest in Holocaust education and being a dedicated ally in bringing this topic into Canadian classrooms
- Collaborating, researching and creating learning opportunities to train forthcoming teachers
- Administrative tasks as required
- Travelling within Canada as required
Requirements:
- Degree in teaching or in a specialized subject with a certificate in education
- Proven experience as a high school classroom teacher
- Fully bilingual (French/English)
- Experience creating lesson plans in literary arts and/or social studies/history courses
- Experience presenting lessons in a comprehensive manner using visual/audio means to facilitate learning (in person and virtually)
- Thorough knowledge of teaching best practices
- Excellent interpersonal skills and well organized
- Creative and energetic

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Azrieli Foundation, the largest non-corporate foundation in Canada, is looking for a Grants Manager to join the team. Reporting to the VP, Grants, the Grant Manager will be accountable for the management of grants that do not fall under one of our Core Areas of Impact (Science, Music and Arts and Neurodiversity), with a large part of their portfolio (40%) relating to Jewish Life.
Responsibilities:
Grant Management (60%)
- Maintains and expands upon a breadth of knowledge to enhance the Foundation’s grant-making strategies, including current trends, emerging issues, evaluations, academic literature, policy interventions and innovations
- Works with Senior Management to develop strategies and policies for consideration by the CEO and the Board, and implements these strategies and policies in a manner approved by the Board
- Strategically identifies worthy funding or partnership opportunities in accordance with charitable tax laws and the mission of the Azrieli Foundation
- Works within the structure of the Azrieli Foundation’s grant-making process, policies and strategic framework to ensure that proposals and documentation put forward by identified organizations may be properly reviewed and considered by the Azrieli Foundation’s Board of Directors
- Provides a preliminary evaluation of submissions consistent with the Azrieli Foundation strategic framework
- Develops key performance indicators of grants for approval by Senior Management
- After discussions with Senior Management and where Board has decided on a strategy for targeted development, works to develop new initiatives; reviews and/or modifies these initiatives as needed; and works with Senior Management to prepare the initiative for presentation to the Board (by the CEO or other key stakeholders)
- Attends conferences when appropriate to learn of developments in fields of interest to the Foundation and position the Azrieli brand in these fields
Administration (40%)
- Administrates grants throughout their lifecycle, from intake to payment processing to report monitoring
- Follows up with funded organizations to ensure that goals are met, and funds are spent as agreed
- Assesses the performance and outcomes of grants to assist in Board decision-making about future funding
- Communicates with funded organizations to ensure the Azrieli Foundation brand is being represented according to established Foundation standards
- At the direction of Senior Management, may act as liaison to funded organizations on joint projects
Qualifications and Experience
- A minimum of three (3) years working in a similar role in a not-for-profit organization
- Experience working with Jewish life or the Jewish community is considered an asset.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills
- Robust project management skills
- Strong communication (verbal and written), listening and implementation skills
- Ability to take direction from multiple people and proactively manage that dynamic
- Detail- and deadline-oriented with strong multi-tasking skills
- Customer- and service-oriented with the ability to adapt and respond to different types of personalities and approaches
- Adaptable and comfortable with change
- Demonstrates a confident and proactive approach to resolving issues
- Knowledge of MS Office
- Proficiency with web-based program management and knowledge-sharing platforms
- Highly organize, flexible and creative with the ability to adapt to shifting priorities and meet tight timelines
- Knowledge of French would be considered an asset
