In light of the global COVID-19 pandemic, on March 18, 2020 the Board of the Azrieli Foundation created an emergency fund to be allocated to meet urgent needs in Canada.
The Foundation was tasked with identifying key needs that could be met by philanthropic donations, as well as partners with whom we could work to amplify our impact.
Since March 18, we have had meetings with dozens of organizations in the general and Jewish community from across Canada and Israel. Our goals have been to understand the highest priority needs, learn from the best practices of others, share ideas and identify the potential grantee partners who can have the most impact.
The “Back on Track from COVID-19” funding opportunity addresses the interruption to biomedical research laboratories and clinical research as a result of the COVID-19 emergency. The funds are intended to cover additional costs to research incurred by facility shutdown, changes in work plans due to social distancing, assisting graduate student progress to complete research and overall to partially mitigate the loss of promising discoveries and ideas.
