Azrieli International Postdoctoral Fellows Orientation 2025

On the evening of Wednesday, November 5, 2025, the Azrieli Fellows Program welcomed its new cohort of international postdoctoral fellows at a special orientation event held at the Council for a Beautiful Israel in Tel Aviv. Taking advantage of the evening breeze after an unusually hot day, the event marked the beginning of the fellowship year in a festive and welcoming atmosphere. The timing also allowed for 12 continuing postdoctoral fellows to join for dinner, creating a valuable opportunity for connection and exchange between new and current fellows.

Prof. Hermona Soreq, the Program’s Senior Academic Advisor, opened the evening with reflections from her own distinguished research career. She spoke about the importance of teamwork in science and shared lighthearted anecdotes. Dr. Aviad Stollman, Global Director of the Azrieli Fellows Program, expanded on this theme, highlighting the role of interdisciplinary bridges, cultural intersections, and the unique opportunities Israel offers as a setting for professional and intellectual growth. His remarks reflected the Program’s broader commitment to fostering meaningful connections across disciplines, institutions, and cultures. Rochelle Avitan, Program Director, offered a historical overview of the Program, tracing its development from David Azrieli’s founding vision.

The group gathered for a formal group photo, followed by an icebreaker activity led by Jeia Kelner, the Program’s Well-Being Officer. Fellows then moved to the onsite restaurant for a shared dinner. Conversations flowed easily between new and continuing Fellows, many of whom were meeting for the first time. The evening marked the official launch of the 2025–2026 fellowship year, setting a tone of openness, engagement, and community that will carry through the months ahead.
