Synopsis
Strategic planning is the cornerstone of successful data analysis, and for PhD students and postdocs, it is a vital skill to acquire. Yet for many researchers, statistics brings a familiar knot of anxiety: the sense that analysis is a hurdle to survive rather than a tool to think with.
This workshop is built to change that. It equips doctoral students and postdocs with concrete strategies for planning analyses effectively, while directly addressing the fear that often surrounds statistics. You will learn how to plan an analysis from the very start of a project, how to match methods to your research questions rather than reaching for a default test, and how to approach statistical decisions with clarity and confidence.
By the end, you will have both the skills and the mindset to plan your data analysis strategically, overcome the fear of statistics, and enter your research projects on a solid footing. Whether you are just beginning your doctoral journey or already deep in the complexities of your research, you will be able to approach data analysis with purpose and resilience.
Outcomes
- Plan a data analysis strategically from the earliest stage of a research project.
- Match statistical methods to research questions with confidence.
- Approach statistics as a tool for thinking rather than a source of anxiety.
- Recognize and work through common pitfalls in analysis planning.
- Move into their own projects with greater clarity, confidence, and resilience.
