The Foundation provides $10 million in emergency support to Israel

To address the deadly attacks perpetrated by Hamas in Israel on October 7 – and the crisis that ensues – the Azrieli Foundation has provided $10 million in funds to a variety of registered charities.

“We aimed to be swift, meaningful and effective in our response,” says Naomi Azrieli, Chair and CEO of the Azrieli Foundation. “Within hours of the attacks, our Board of Directors were arranging our first infusion of funds to support the victims of terror.”

Within three days, the Foundation deployed $5 million; the rest was distributed during the next few weeks. These funds are currently being used for many high-priority needs – including first responders, hospitals, medical equipment and trauma support.

Some of the recipients of the funds include Canadian Magen David Adom, United Hatzalah Canada, Leket Canada, Canadian Hadassah-WIZO and Canadian Friends of Rambam Hospital, all of which are working to provide immediate relief in Israel.

“We are closely monitoring the events as they unfold and are harnessing all our abilities to aid the people of Israel during this dire time,” says Azrieli. “We are working strategically to assess the needs and distributing funds where they are most needed.”

Azrieli noted that while the situation in Israel remains fluid and difficult to predict, the Foundation will work with its partners to ensure its support will continue.

“We stand united with Israel, strong and resolute in our support,” says Azrieli. “Our hearts are with our friends, families, colleagues – and all the people of Israel – as we grieve the loss and trauma of this brutal attack that has left no one in the country untouched.”

With the support of the Azrieli Foundation, both […]

Returning to Jewish Summer Camps
A few years ago, it would have been hard to predict how important covered open-air spaces would become in our daily lives. In 2017, two Jewish summer camps – Camp Kinneret-Biluim in Quebec and Camp George in Ontario – coincidentally proposed building covered, multipurpose outdoor facilities. Supported by donations from the Azrieli Foundation, both were […]

Emergency support for Holocaust survivors
Seven years ago, after a public call-to-action revealed a dire lack of support for low-income Holocaust survivors across Canada, the Azrieli Foundation began supporting the Emergency Assistance Program (EAP). The EAP provides grants to local Jewish agencies to ensure that this vulnerable population receives financial assistance to meet urgent needs. The Foundation has partnered with […]
