The Azrieli Fellows Program holds two writing retreats each year, designed to give Fellows dedicated, uninterrupted time to focus on their writing. These retreats are intentionally small, with limited spaces, and are in high demand among Fellows and alumni who value the chance to step away from daily responsibilities and invest in deep work.
This summer’s retreat gathered thirty-eight participants for a three-day, two-night stay in the quiet desert town of Arad. Set against the backdrop of the Negev, Arad provided a peaceful and spacious environment, ideal for sustained concentration. The hotel venue offered simple comforts, including a pool and expansive desert views, allowing Fellows to balance focused writing with moments of rest.
From the outset, Fellows set personal goals in small peer groups and received printed planners to help structure their time. Each morning began with a walk around the surrounding area, setting a calm and focused tone for the day ahead.
Evenings offered a shift in rhythm, with informal social activities led by the Fellows themselves. These gatherings were both relaxed and well attended, strengthening the sense of shared purpose and community that defines the Azrieli experience.
The retreat supported both individual progress and peer connection, reaffirming the program’s commitment to providing meaningful spaces for academic work and professional growth.
