Synopsis
R is a widely used tool for data analysis and scientific programming. Researchers often need R, but many face a steep learning curve when navigating it alone. This workshop offers a structured and practical introduction to R and the popular tidyverse packages. It guides participants through the entire data analysis workflow, from importing and cleaning data to creating publication-ready visualizations. By the end, participants will be able to integrate R into their workflows to produce clear, reproducible results that support their research.
Outcomes
- Gain basic competence in R and the tidyverse for data analysis
- Learn to manage key steps in a data analysis workflow: importing, cleaning, processing, and visualizing data
- Build readiness to apply R independently to address personal research questions

About the Instructor
Dr. Selina Baldauf is a theoretical ecologist and scientific programmer at Freie Universität Berlin. She assists researchers in developing efficient and reproducible code, as well as in building reliable digital workflows for their daily scientific work. Her teaching focuses on R, data analysis, and scientific coding, along with tools like Git and Obsidian that help make research more organized and sustainable. With a PhD in ecology and a passion for computer science, she helps scientists bridge the gap between ecological research, programming, and modern research practices.
